Installation
Download the package for your system from the download section of the home page. To check a download, compare it with the published SHA-256 checksums: shasum -a 256 <file> on macOS and Linux, Get-FileHash <file> in PowerShell.
| System | Package |
|---|---|
| macOS | .dmg, one universal app for Apple silicon and Intel |
| Linux | .deb for Debian and Ubuntu, .rpm for Fedora and RHEL |
| Windows | .exe, 64-bit |
First launch
The builds are not signed yet, so your system asks you to confirm before it opens gurl the first time.
- macOS: open the
.dmgand drag gurl into Applications. If macOS refuses to open it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. - Windows: if SmartScreen stops the app, choose More info → Run anyway.
- Linux: install with your package manager, for example
sudo apt install ./gurl_0.1.0_amd64.deb.
macOS from the Terminal
This is for macOS only. On a Mac you can skip the confirmation by installing from the Terminal instead of the browser:
curl -fsSL https://gurldesk.com/install.sh | sh
It is the same app as the .dmg. The script downloads the .dmg, checks it against the published SHA-256 checksum, and copies gurl into Applications, or into ~/Applications if you cannot write to Applications. macOS asks for confirmation only for files downloaded in a browser, which is why this way opens without it. Run the same command again to update.
Where your data lives
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Projects, requests, history | gurl.db, a SQLite file in your user configuration folder |
| Machine settings | a JSON file beside it |
| Shared git working copies | a repos folder beside it |
On macOS the folder is ~/Library/Application Support/gurl, on Linux $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/gurl. The GURL_DB, GURL_SETTINGS and GURL_REPOS environment variables point gurl somewhere else.
